Artist Educator

Laura combines her art practice with teaching. She helps students to develop their own creativity and learn about their design process. Inspiring students to grow creative confidence and to feel equipped to take part in the creative world is what she aims for. She uses art as a tool, a way to help them explore their undiscovered capabilities as future designers and photographers. She develops and teaches her own curriculum.

Present

Teacher Creativity, mentor and researcher at SintLucas vocational college in Eindhoven since 2015, 3 days a week. Occasionally offering workshops for students aged 12-18.

In the (nearby) future

A sabbatical of 6 months from teaching to focus on her artistic practice.

2020 – Research ‘De complexe beleving van creativiteit’, for the masters, on how creativity can be experienced with the contradictions that seem to come with it. Both in the creative-artistic process as well as in being creative.

2017–2020 Member of the Academische Werkplaats/No School, a collaboration of ArtEZ, SintLucas and Cibap – research on creativity and art education. A publication came out in 2020, No School Manifesto, with the chapter ‘Universe’ written by Laura.

Recent art education projects

Initiator of the collaboration with Pennings Foundation with visits, education (photo books, magazine design, how to exhibit) and a variety of workshops f.e. like how to make a zine or concertina for SintLucas Eindhoven. Also responsible for the curriculum.

Workshop ‘Het Kleine, Het Gewone en Het Verborgene (Sporen van verborgen verhalen)’, a mix of digital and analogue photography centered around storytelling. For secondary education.
